The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has announced that it has quadrupled the previous world’s record for transmitting photons by quantum teleportation, up from 25 kilometers (16 miles) to 102 kilometers (63 miles) making long-range transmission of uncrackable encryption keys over fiber optics a reality.
