Astronomers have long suspected that the atmosphere in Io, Jupiter’s frozen moon, would deflate every time the giant planet eclipses it—the absence of the Sun’s heat would cause temperatures to plummet further. For the first time ever, they have finally observed the phenomenon, thanks the Gemini North telescope.
